I Thought I Was Ready!?!

Spicin' Up Saturdays with Joni

Monday is usually a day that I dread. That is the day that my mom has trained her girls to get up, clean the house, scrub the toilets, mop the floors, vacuum really good, and end the day exhausted but with a very clean house. Call my sisters on Monday morning and most times you will find us all doing the same thing, cleaning. Though Mondays can cause Sunday night blues, I have come to look forward to Mondays because I change how far along I am on that day. Right now I am 14 weeks pregnant, but in just two days, I get to say I am fifteen weeks along. It feels like such an accomplishment when I get to say that I am one week farther. It is like, "Yes! I made it! One week done!!!! Only 25 more to go!!!!" I usually don't think the last part because that seems overwhelming.
I am pregnant with my third. When I was pregnant with Vienna, my first, I spent so much time researching stuff. I wanted a good car seat and stroller. We looked for a good crib. I studied bedroom sets for hours. When she finally came, we were pretty set. Then comes my second, Clark, and we had to get more stuff because he was a boy. Luckily the main expensive things we had purchased were gender neutral so it was mostly clothes and blankets that we had to stock up on. Thanks to my sister Katie for donating her boy stuff, so again we were set. Now comes baby number three. Since I have had a boy and a girl, you would think we were set, right? WRONG! My oldest is now 5 1/2 years old, so I bought her car seat like six years ago. Which means it is expired. So we need to get a new car seat. Then somewhere after I had Clark, my crib was recalled. Since I haven't been in the baby scene for a few years, I didn't realize this. Our crib, which I love, has a drop down side which are no longer safe. Then the frame where the mattress sits on can collapse. So pretty much it would be irresponsible to use it. Darn it! So again we are looking into getting more stuff!
A friend told me that Babies R Us is doing a special in their stores if you bring your old baby item in, you can get 25% off a new item. Since this deal ends on Monday, we went last night with my old car seat. As Rindi shared in her blanket post, we moms get attached to our things when they are associated with our babies. I didn't want to give up the car seat that I had lugged around for two babies, where my babies had slept, or screamed as we drove places. As I handed it to the guest service worker, I said, "I have had two babies use that thing." She looked at me like, "So." To me, it was hard to part with, but I did. Then we went to look at new ones. Ouch! They are expensive. We spent some time trying to breath as we realized how much we would be forking over. As I was walking around, I noticed another customer walking around with MY car seat. I quickly grabbed Jaron and said, "That lady has our car seat!" I asked a worker if they resold the car seats and he assured me they recycle them. But still this lady was walking around the store carrying my car seat. When we checked out I asked the front desk what they do with the car seats. Again they said recycle them. I asked why a customer was walking around with my car seat. They said they put them on a cart to be sent to recycling, so it was possible she stole it off the cart and left with it. I was so upset. As we were driving home and I was still talking about this, Jaron said, "I can tell this is really bothering you!" I said it was because that was my babies' car seat and I did not give that woman permission to have it, especially since it is unsafe to use. I finally had to give up on it since there was nothing to be done, but I was sad that a part of my babies' memories was stolen. The good news! I have a new cute car seat that in 25 weeks (but whose counting) will be filled with a beautiful new baby. I can't wait! On to find more stuff!

Recipe of the Week: Peanut Butter Chicken (Gluten Free)
I got this recipe from crockpot365.blogspot.com

4 Chicken Breats (or 2 lbs)
1 Cup Peanut Butter (Kroger makes a Gluten Free PB)
1-2 Red Peppers cut into chunks
2T ground cumin
Juice from 2 small limes
1/2 cup soy sauce (I bought this at a health food store)
2 cup chicken broth (Gluten Free Brands: Kroger, Progresso, Pacific)

Combine all ingredients minus the chicken in the crock pot first. Mix best you can with the peanut butter. When mixed, add chicken to it in the crock pot (cook 4 hrs on high or 6-8 on low). One hour before serving, shred the chicken and put back in mixture. Serve over rice. Makes a lot - good for left overs!

We did the same car seat exchange with a car seat my mom bought in 1997! We love our car seat. What kind did you get? It is exciting being pregnant with someone else because I can feel your excitement. Did you hear we are having a boy? Anyway, congrats again, and I feel for you with having to trade in the old car seat.

Joni, that would be so hard for me. I still have my original car seat. I tried to donate it to the D.I. because it is still in such good shape, but too old. They don't take them for obvious reasons, but the man reached out his hand and said, "I'll throw it away for you." I pulled it back toward me and said, "No, I'll do it," and I took it back home and put it in my garage. When I read your post, it made me so sad for you. I feel the same way about all of my baby stuff! I will have a hard time throwing it away. Ouch!! Great post!
Love, Rindi
